This the most recent, most hip campaign that’s fiercely spreading the entire Kuching population. Even my husband was reluctant is now convinced AND even kinda anticipate the event this coming Sunday to shave his head BALD. Botak, the word in Malay. The decent motive for this whole hip thingy is to raise fund for Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS). So, there my husband is now very keen to shave his head after Kenny Sia’s. Undeniably, it’s an extreme courageous move that it makes bungee jump sounds stupid and easy. But, some of you may ask, why go bald instead you can just easily donate the monies towards the fund? I did ask. Why? Is it not enough to donate? Apart from fundraising, another reason for this whole thing is to create awareness. Soon, Kuching is to filled up with a minority bunch of botak and some people may ask, out of curiosity, why is botak a new fashion in town or something? Then, they spread the needs of this group of community who constantly need help with funding to afford for treatments to run through the children’s cancerous bodies.

It’s not easy. Being frank, i’m not willing to let go of my hair. I need my hair. I’m not bold enough to be bald. BUT, for those of you who are, please support!

A thought keeps lingering in my mind. My husband goes around asking for donations and he sets the limit for himself of RM5,000. I thought his friends are mostly quite well off and he should be able to make it to reach that target easily. But after he reached out to some of them, i’m so dumb-struck to say that, talking about money donation is all about sincerity and willingness to do so. It has NOTHING to do with being filthy rich or poorly poor to donate. When the poor donates a ten ringgit, the amount looks as big as a car tyre. But for those rich party goers, they are so happy and generous to spend hundreds and thousands on wines and cigars and partying the nights away but when it comes to donation to the needy, they give the least. A hundred ringgit from someone who can afford cars, houses, parties, everything else luxury in the house? Thank you!! Either they’re too well off to be stingy enough or they haven’t seen the kids who are suffering and struggling with their lives every moment.

Advise? Make a trip to the cancer ward in the hospital and you’ll know what you should be doing and not what you’re doing now.

I’m going to donate and my husband is going to represent us all to give his hair away this Sunday. We’re thankful that we have a lovely, healthy daughter and hence, we should give back to the society by helping a little bit here and there to our ability. If you’re here in Kuching, bold to be bald, pocketful of money/changes that you’re going to fill in your piggy bank at home, please drop by tHe Spring Shopping Mall in Kuching this 15th February 2009, Sunday from 1pm to 4.30pm and be part of us all. Donate OR go bald to create awareness in our society. See you there!
